WORCESTER - Georgia Stratis, age 72, died surrounded by her loving family on December 4, 2015, at UMass Memorial Medical Center.
She lived her entire life in Worcester and was active in the Greek Orthodox community including her many years of participation in Ladies Philoptochos. She was a long-term member of St. Spryridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Worcester, St. Paraskevi Greek Orthodox Shrine Church in Long Island, NY, St. John the Forerunner Greek Orthodox Monastery, in Goldendale, WA, and I Agappe Markella, Hios, Greece.
Georgia was born July 6, 1943, the daughter of Dimitrios and Theodora Pappas, and married Eleftherios Stratis, on June 17, 1962. A loving wife and caring mother and grandmother, Georgia devoted herself to her children James and his fiancée, Laura Penney, and Sandra, wife of Keary Allicon, as well as her granddaughters Miranda and Juliana Allicon.
In addition to her husband and children, Georgia is survived by her brother Bill Pappas and wife Katina, and her sister Constance Fotos, wife of Eleftherios Fotos, all of Worcester, as well as many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
Georgia spent many years working with her husband and children in the family business, Foxborough House of Pizza, and is appreciated by the Foxborough Community for her charitable contributions and giving spirit. She additionally worked for and retired from the UMass Medical Center in Worcester. After retirement she could regularly be seen helping and entertaining the patrons of Val’s Restaurant in Holden.
Family and friends are invited to join the Stratis Family for visiting hours from 4 to 7 PM on Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden, with a Trisagion Service at 5:45 PM. Georgia’s funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street, Worcester, 01609. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery.
The family requests flowers be omitted and contributions be made in Georgia’s memory to St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral Endowment Fund, 102 Russell Street, Worcester, MA 01609.
