PRINCETON – Peter George Cleveland, 75, of 74 Main Street, died Wednesday, July 22, 2009, in his home, surrounded by family after a long battle with cancer.
He leaves his wife of almost 51 years, Suzanna (Roberts) Cleveland; three sons, Kenneth Cleveland and his wife, Jan Gottesman, of Worcester, Pete Cleveland and his partner, Kym Hauser, of Leominster and Edward Cleveland of Princeton; four daughters, Peggy Sue and her husband, Steve Leclerc, of Leominster, Belinda and her husband, Peter Cringan, of Gardner, Cora Cleveland of Princeton, and Sarah and her husband, Pete Northup, of Princeton; a brother, Thomas and his wife, Terry, of Gardner; and three grandchildren, Jennifer, Adam and Laura Leclerc. He was predeceased by a sister, Pearl Lomison.
Mr. Cleveland was born on March 18, 1934, in Carmel, New York, the son of Merle and Hazel (Willett) Cleveland, and grew up in Princeton. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, serving as a medic. He was employed as a printer, rising from a machine operator to foreman at Rand Whitney Printing Corp. (initially the Dodge Box Company and later Inland Corp.) in Leominster and retiring as printing supervisor in 1999 after 45 years with the company.
After starting a family and living in Fitchburg, he moved to Princeton, raising the family and lending a helping hand to many friends and family, even in retirement, from repair projects to driving people to appointments.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 26, in the Miles-Sterling Funeral Home, 100 Worcester Road (Rte. 12), Sterling. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 27, in the funeral home. Burial will be private in Woodlawn Cemetery, Connor Lane, Princeton. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mr. Cleveland's memory may be made to the Princeton Fire Department, 8 Town Hall Drive, Princeton, MA 01541.
