HOLDEN – George W. Schwichtenberg, Jr., 76, of Malden Street and retired Police Chief of Sherborn and West Boylston, died Monday, May 10, 2004, in the Oakdale Nursing & Rehabilitation Center after a long illness.
He leaves his wife, Marilyn I. (Gray) Schwichtenberg; a stepson, David Bowers of Wake Forest, North Carolina; two stepdaughters, Carol Hersh of Sharon and Amy Danckert of Altamont, New York; two daughters, Lynne and Ellen Schwichtenberg of Long Island, NY; five grandchildren; nieces and nephews. A sister, Barbara Countryman, predeceased him. He was born in Farmingdale, Long Island, son of George W. and Julia (Ritter) Schwichtenberg, Sr. He was a Navy Veteran of World War II. He attended Union College and graduated from C.W. Post College in Long Island, New York, and earned his Master’s Degree from Framingham State College.
Mr. Schwichtenberg had worked as a Lieutenant for the Long Island State Park Way Police for 29 years and was the former Chief of Police for the towns of Sherborn and West Boylston. He was also Chief of Security for the Worcester Art Museum. He was a member of the Long Island Park Way Police Association, the Worcester County Police Chief’s Association and the Worcester Bee Keeper’s Association.
Mr. Schwichtenberg’s graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 14, 2004 in Memories Garden Cemetery, Colony, New York. Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden is directing arrangements.
