George R. Lawton

WORCESTER – George R. Lawton, Sr., 92, of Worcester, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 30, 2016 under the loving care of his family and the staff at the Rose Monahan Hospice Home in Worcester. George was born in Worcester the son of George N. and Laura E. (Anderson) Lawton. He was a lifetime resident of Worcester and graduated from North High School.
His beloved wife of 67 years, Shirley R. (Barber) Lawton, passed away in 2014. He leaves two sons, George R. Lawton, Jr. and his wife, Katharine of Leicester and Gary R. Lawton and his wife, Catherine “Kay” of Worcester; his grandchildren, Dawn Liss, Tina Spurr, Leah Cross and Nicholas Lawton; eight great grandchildren and a great-great grandson.
George and his wife Shirley owned and operated Lawton’s 1941 House on Burncoat Street in Worcester for over 10 years. He later retired from Jamesbury Corp. in Worcester where he worked for over 25 years. George was a talented woodworker and built his home in Worcester and his family’s lake home in Leicester. He enjoyed bowling, playing golf and spending time at Cape Cod.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 7 pm on Thursday, June 2, at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. A funeral service honoring and celebrating his life will be held at 11 am on Friday, June 3, at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Hope Cemetery in Worcester.
