PAXTON – George A. Knipe, 95, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 28, 2011 at the Meadows of Leicester after an illness.He leaves his wife of 70 years, Lillian M. (Hakala) Knipe; a son, Roger A. Knipe and his wife Sandra of Hubbardston; a grandson, Seth A. Knipe and his wife Nichole of Hubbardston; three great-grandchildren, Brandon, Jacob and Corrine; many nephews and nieces. Two brothers, Samuel and John Knipe predeceased him. He was born in Paxton, the son of Samuel J. and Helena (Nishan) Knipe and has lived in Paxton most of his life. George was a shop supervisor for many years at the Rexnord Chain Company in Auburn retiring in 1979. He was a member or the First Congregational Church in Paxton. George was a member of the Rufus Putnam Lodge of Masons in Rutland. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies of both Worcester and Springfield which include: the Worcester Lodge of Perfection, Goddard Council, Evening Star Lodge of Perfection, Massasoit Council, Princes of Jerusalem, Lawrence and Springfield Chapters of Rose Croix and the Connecticut Valley Consistory. He was a member of the Grand Order of the Sword of Bunker Hill in Providence, Rhode Island, the Finnish Heritage Society, Sovittaja, the Paxton Senior Center and was a Friend of the Council on Aging in Paxton. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing golf.Relatives and friends are invited to attend a calling hour on Wednesday, August 31st, from 1 to 2 p.m., followed by a service at 2 p.m. in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. Burial will follow at Mooreland Cemetery, 251 Richards Avenue (Rte. 56), Paxton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Congregational Church of Paxton, Memorial Fund, 1 Church Street in Paxton, or the Finnish Heritage Society, Sovittaja, c/o Mrs. Eva E.
