George M. Hynes

PRINCETON – George M. Hynes, II, aka Big George, 72, passed away unexpectedly at home on Monday, October 2, 2017.  Born in Cambridge, the son of Hubert M. and Gertrude (McDonald) Hynes was raised in Medford and has lived in Princeton for the past 33 years.

He leaves his loving wife of 51 years, Janice T. (Massarotti) Hynes; his three children, George M. Hynes, III and his wife, Lucilene Brito of Harvard, Sharon T. Hynes and her companion, Michael Morrier of Decatur, GA and Timothy M. Hynes and his wife, Nancy of Pepperell; his brother, Robert Hynes and his wife, Sherie Moore of Goffstown, NH; his sister, Susan Dieter and her husband, Richard of Lakewood Ranch, FL and Dennis, MA; three grandchildren, Phoebe, Emma and George, IV; niece, Caitlin; nephews, Russell, Jeffery, and Devin; and his dog “Buddy.”

George was a pilot with the rank of captain in the U.S. Air Force. He flew a K.C.-135 tanker during the Vietnam War. He was a safety consultant in the semiconductor industry for several years before retiring. Previously, he was a safety engineer for Digital Equipment and Intel, both in Hudson. George was an avid collector and belonged to many area clubs. He was a master craftsman who loved to collect and repair clocks, builds boats, and recently completed his latest project, a beautiful flagpole as a gift to his beloved wife. He will be sadly missed.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, October 5, in the Miles-Sterling Funeral and Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Road, Sterling. Funeral services for George will be held on Friday, October 6, from the funeral home with an 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in Prince of Peace Church, 1 Worcester Rd., Princeton. Burial will follow Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Glenallen Road, Winchendon. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Disabled American Veterans, www.dav.org .
