George H. Christenson

WEST BOYLSTON/STERLING – George H. Christenson, of 8 Osgood Road, formerly of West Boylston, died Friday, August 19, 2005, surrounded by his loving family in UMass Memorial Healthcare, Worcester after an illness.

He leaves his wife of 49 years, Patricia C. (MacGeoch) Christenson; a son, Scott R. Christenson and his wife Joyce of Phillipston; a daughter, Janna B. Goodnow and her husband Steven of Holden; five grandchildren, Ashley and Brandon Goodnow, and Amanda, Kayla and Sarah Christenson; a nephew and two nieces. A brother, Russell Christenson died in 1984. He was born in Worcester the son of Emil G. and Helen M. (Ostergaurd) Christenson and lived 41 years in West Boylston before moving to Sterling in 1999.

Mr. Christenson graduated from North High School in Worcester and attended the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. He worked at Norton Company in Worcester for 41 years. After his retirement, he worked part-time as a travel trainer for the Worcester Regional Transit Authority and served as a volunteer and member of the Board of Directors of N.E.A.D.S. in Princeton. He served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959.

He was a member of the First Congregational Church of West Boylston where he was a counter for 30 years, and served many years on the West Boylston Conservation Commission. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and was an ardent NASCAR Race fan.

A memorial service for Mr. Christenson will be held at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, August 24, in the First Congregational Church of West Boylston, 26 Central Street. Burial will be private in Pine Grove Cemetery, Boylston. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to N.E.A.D.S. (Dogs for Deaf and Disabled Americans), 305 Redemption Rock Trail, Princeton, MA 01541. Miles-Sterling Funeral Home, 100 Worcester Road, Sterling, is directing arrangements.
