George ''Giddy'' E. Smith

THOUSAND OAKS, CALIFORNIA – George ''Giddy'' E. Smith, of 415 East Sidlee Street and a former resident of Rutland, died Thursday, September 16, 2004, peacefully at home.

He leaves a daughter, Penny R. Smith of Thousand Oaks; a grandson, Brandon Smith of San Jose; and two nieces. His wife Jane Cecilia (Beach) Smith, a son, G. Gary Smith, and a brother, Arthur Smith, predeceased him. He was born in Rutland, son of George E. and Mae (Magee) Smith, and lived there for eighteen years before moving to the West Coast. George lived in Washington, Oregon and California. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II and worked as a Photographic Salesmen for many years on the West Coast.

The funeral service for Mr. Smith will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, September 19, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden, MA. Burial will be private in Rural Cemetery, 142 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Rutland. A calling hour will be from 2 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, September 19, in the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Rutland Fire Brigade Rescue Fund, 240 Main Street, Rutland, MA 01543.
