HOLDEN – Donald G. Berry, Sr., 76, of 97 Paugus Road, died Tuesday, March 20, 2007, in UMass Memorial Healthcare, after an illness.
His wife, Betty A. (Thayer) Berry, died in 2002. He leaves his son, Donald G. Berry, Jr. and his fiancée, Tammy Schlegel of Southbridge; a daughter, Kim B. Malpass and her husband Troy of Vanceboro, NC; six brothers, Harold J. Berry, Jr. of Webster, Roger E. Berry of Jefferson, Gerald R. Berry of Rutland, Edward J. Berry of Leicester, David A. Berry of Centerville and Charles “Arnie” Berry of Asheboro, North Carolina; two sisters, Gladys R. Chilleri of Holden and Dorothy A. Munhall of North Uxbridge; two grandchildren, Charles E. Fisher III and Tara R. Berry; six great grandchildren; many nephews and nieces. Three brothers, Benjamin C., Dennis M. and Richard P. Berry, predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, the son of Harold J. and Viola R. (Sheard) Berry, lived many years in Holden, and several years in New Bern, NC before moving back to Holden in 2002.
Mr. Berry worked for New England Grocers in Northboro for over 25 years retiring as the warehouse manager in 1995. He was a member of the Local 170 Teamster’s Union. He was a Navy Veteran of the Korean War.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 23, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. The funeral Mass for Mr. Berry will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 24, in St. George’s Church, 38 Brattle Street, Worcester. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, 217 Richards Avenue (Rte. 56), Paxton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the UMass Memorial Home Health and Hospice, 650 Lincoln Street, Worcester, MA 01605.
