WORCESTER - Gayle B. (Zelermyer) Golden 78 of Worcester MA, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend died peacefully at home on Saturday, December 10, 2022. Born in Cambridge MA, daughter of Dr. Max and Ruth (Blank) Zelermyer, Gayle is survived by her husband of 53 years, Robert H Golden, her son Jonathan J Golden, her daughter-in-law Kimberly Golden, and grandson Sidney Golden. She is also survived by her older brother Rabbi Gerald Zelermyer and younger brother Mark Zelermyer as well as many nephews, nieces and cousins.
Gayle graduated from the Winsor School, attended Smith College, and graduated from Simmons School of Social Work. She worked at Mass Eye and Ear Infirmary and Tufts Medical Center, and also had a private practice in couples therapy.
She served as the First Vice President of the Massachusetts chapter of the National Association of Social Workers. She was a member of the allocation committee for United Way and a trustee of Worcester State Hospital.
At Smith College Gayle watched the foreign film series on Saturday nights and the classic film series on Sunday at Wright Hall. A lifelong lover of film and music, she loved the following line by singer-songwriter James Taylor, “The secret of life is enjoying the passage of time.” Gayle felt deeply, when your classroom is life itself, that you can learn to see the incredible resilience of the human spirit when faced with adversity and potential growth that can come from transformative moments.
