G Walter Steelman

HOLDEN – G. Walter Steelman, 88, of 308 Holden Street, died Monday, December 26, 2005, in the Holy Trinity Nursing Home, Worcester.

His wife of 48 years, Anna Lisa (Anderson) Steelman, died in 2000. He leaves three nieces, Carolyn Hashem of North Berwick, Maine, Pamela Evers of North Oxford and Karen Derby of Worcester; three nephews, Donald Joyce of Midlothian, Virginia, William Joyce of Rome, New York and the Rev. Russell Joyce of New Milford, Connecticut. Two brothers, William T. and C. Stanley Steelman, and a sister, Agnes Joyce, predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, son of John T. and Matilda C. (Anderson) Steelman. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II serving in the European African Middle Eastern Theater.

Mr. Steelman worked for Warner Swasey Company in Worcester for many years. He was a member of the Epworth United Methodist Church, the Greendale Retired Men’s Club and he enjoyed golfing and tennis.

The funeral service for Mr. Steelman will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, December 30, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, 217 Richards Avenue (Rte. 56), Paxton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701.
