PAXTON – Robert F. X. Roy, Sr., 78, of Ashwood Road, died Saturday, December 26, 2009 surrounded by his loving family at the Rose Monahan Hospice Home.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Julia E. (Gadaire) Roy; his three children and four grandchildren, Robert F. X. Roy, Jr. and his wife Christine of Arlington, VA, John R. Roy, his wife Cindy and their children Jonathan and Erika of Worcester, and Susan (Roy) Girard her husband Bruce and their children Rachel and Julia of Holden. He also leaves his mother Margaret (Taylor) Roy, and his brother Ronald Roy and his wife Helen (Murphy) Roy, all of East Hartford, CT. Robert was born on December 8, 1931 in Worcester. His father Rodolphe A. Roy, two sisters Joan (Roy) Sullivan and Carol Roy, and his brother William Roy predeceased him.
Robert was an All-City football star at South High School in Worcester and he received a football scholarship from the University of Connecticut. At UConn he attained All-New England status as an offensive center and a defensive middle linebacker. He was a member of the Reserve Officers Training Corps. Robert was a New York Life Insurance agent for over 50 years, where he was a Life and Qualifying Member of the Million Dollar Round table. He enjoyed football and was an avid New England Patriots fan. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
A Memorial Mass for Robert will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, December 30th, in St. Columba Church, 10 Richards Avenue, Paxton. Burial will be private at Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rose Monahan Hospice Home, c/o VNA Care Network & Hospice, 120 Thomas Street, Worcester, MA 01608-1280. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden.
