STERLING – George Furmanick, 88, of Sholan Terrace, died peacefully Friday, November 16, 2007 in the Highlands Rehabilitation Center, Fitchburg, after a brief illness.
Mr. Furmanick is survived by his nephews, Donald Yarus and his wife Linda of Southhampton, NJ, Richard Yarus and his wife Bette Ann of New Windsor, NY, Phillip Michaud of Daytona Beach, FL; his niece, Donna Yarus of Orlando, FL; his brother-in-law, Peter Yarus also of Orlando, FL; cousins, Joan Kush, Richard Furmanick and Elaine Brown all of Sterling, and many more nieces, nephews and cousins. He was born in Chelsea, son of Joseph and Petronella (Narda) Furmanick. He was predeceased by his sister, Helen Yarus and brothers, Peter and Joseph Furmanick.
Mr. Furmanick spent his life in the Sterling area where he was a furniture maker. During his retirement, his love of woodworking became his hobby. His many woodcrafts decorated his home and were welcomed gifts to his friends and family. He was an avid fisherman and conservationist. He knew the area history and loved to share his knowledge.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 19th, in the Miles-Sterling Funeral Home, 100 Worcester Road (Rte. 12), Sterling followed by a Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Richard of Chichester Church, 4 Bridge Street, Sterling. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Clinton Road (Rte. 62), Sterling. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Richard of Chichester Church, P.O. Box 657, Sterling, MA 01564-0657.
