WEST BOYLSTON – Fredrick W. Nims, 88, of 268 Goodale Street, died Saturday, July 3, 2004, in Epoch Nursing Home, Weston, in the presence of his loving family.
His wife of 54 years, Florence (White) Nims, died in 1994. He leaves a son, Thomas F.W. Nims and his wife Jean A. of Framingham; a daughter, Dorothy M. Christo and her husband Dennis with whom he lived; two sisters, Arlene Young of New Hampshire and Joan Stander of Montpelier, Vermont; six grandchildren, Kimberlea Farmer, Stephanie Cone, Gregory Chisto, Christine Alsip, David and Suzanne Nims; six great-grandchildren; many nephews and nieces. Two brothers, Robert E. and Herbert Nims, predeceased him. He was born and raised in Waltham, the son of Fredrick A. and Mae (Masterton) Nims, and lived many years in Weston.
Mr. Nims was an engineer with the Boston Albany Penn Central Railroads for 40 years, retiring in 1980. He was a provisional reserve officer and dispatcher with the Weston Police Department for many years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Weston, a lifetime member of the Waltham Masonic Lodge of Masons and enjoyed woodworking.
The funeral service for Mr. Nims will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 8, in the Greendale People’s Church, 25 Francis Street, Worcester. Burial will follow at 1 p.m. be in Linwood Cemetery, Boston Post Road (Rte. 20), Weston. Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 7, in the Miles-Sterling Funeral Home, 100 Worcester Road (Rte. 12), Sterling. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Choir Room Restoration Fund, Greendale People’s Church, 25 Francis Street, Worcester, MA 01606.
