A Memorial Service for Frederick W. Anderson who passed away on Monday, November 6, 2017, will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 346 Shrewsbury Street, Holden. Burial will be private.HOLDEN – Frederick Warren Anderson, 95, a long time Holden resident, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 6, 2017 at the Oakdale Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center, West Boylston after a brief period of declining health.Born in Worcester on January 7, 1922, he was the son of C. Conrad and Vera Anderson. He graduated from North High School in Worcester. Frederick was a Navy Veteran of WWII serving on the USS Denver in the South Pacific Theater. Fred enjoyed many ship reunions in the 1980’s and 1990’s. He was a graduate of Upsala College in East Orange, New Jersey and Assumption College in Worcester where he received a Masters in rehabilitation counseling.He met Maud Widen while attending Upsala College. They were married on November 6, 1948, in Mount Vernon, New York. They celebrated their 50th anniversary in 1998 with family and friends at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Holden. Maud died in 2002.Fred worked in private industry, including at the Carrington Envelope Co., Worcester Envelope Co. and Valtec Corporation prior to obtaining his Masters degree. He then worked at the Walter E. Fernald School in Templeton as a Unit Director, and retired from the Massachusetts State Rehabilitation Commission as a rehabilitation Counselor. Fred was a talented artist from his teenage years and took up oil painting as a hobby later in life. He took great pleasure in sharing his paintings with family and friends, and continued painting up until 2015. He was an avid baseball and hockey player in high school and played baseball in college. He shared his love of sports with his sons through years of coaching little league baseball in Holden and as a supporter of hockey at Webster Square Arena. He also loved literature and classical music.He was a long time member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Holden, Christ Lutheran Church in West Boylston and St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Brewster. He took an active role in committee work and teaching confirmation in his younger days.He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Maud; brother, Henry; sister, Ruth; and granddaughter, Jennifer Morse. Fred is survived by his sisters, Connie Carlsen of Montvale, New Jersey and Carolyn Clark of Wilbraham; and his five children, Linda Morse and her husband, Richard of Princeton, Bruce Anderson and his wife, Linda of Seymour, Tennessee, Paul Anderson and his wife, Kristie of Wheat Ridge, Colorado, Nancy Anderson and her husband, Graham Kislingbury of Albany, Oregon and Heidi Lahey and her husband, William of Holden; 16 grandchildren, Bryant and Derrick Morse, Carly Wilson, Devon, John and James Anderson, Jenifer Anderson, Trischa Hagans, Briana Hall, Shawndra Anderson, Lisa and Anna Anderson, Patrick and Matthew Lahey, Victoria and Kienan Mooney; and 9 great grandchildren, Shane and Alexa Morse, Noelle Morse, Gannen and Taelor Erickson, Trenton and Tia Hall, and Parker and Charlotte Wilson; as well as several nieces and nephews.The family would like to thank the staff at the Oakdale Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center for their kind and compassionate care of Fred.A memorial service honoring and celebrating Fred’s life will be held in the Spring of 2018. Memorial contributions can be made to the Immanuel Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 346 Shrewsbury Street, Holden, MA 01520.
