LEICESTER/ELKHART, IN - Frank Louis Nelson, 73, of Elkhart, Indiana and formerly of Leicester, passed away unexpectedly at Elkhart General Hospital in Indiana on Friday, Jan. 17, 2014. Frank was born in Worcester on April 13, 1940, the son of Joseph and Hazel (Foster) Nelson and had lived many years in Leicester before moving to Indiana in 2004.
Frank entered the U.S. Army in 1960 and proudly served his country for more than 20 years. He reached the rank of Sergeant First Class while serving tours in Vietnam, Germany and several locations in the U.S. After his retirement, he enjoyed spending time camping, fishing and puttering around the house.
Frank is survived and will be greatly missed by his son, Scott Nelson and his wife, Robin of Holden; his former wife, Carol A. Nelson of Leicester, three sisters, Nancy Dunn of Webster, Arlene Leighton of Elkhart, IN and Elizabeth Plante of Virginia; a brother, Kenny Marble and his wife, Lena of Elkhart, IN and his grandchildren, Jordon, Christopher and Davin Nelson; and great-grandchildren, Avery and Ryleigh Knox of West Boylston. He was predeceased by both his parents, a brother, Robert Nelson and a sister, Eleanor Fontaine.
A Memorial Service honoring Frank’s life will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, February 23, at Miles-Sterling Funeral & Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Road, Sterling.
