Biography
WEST BOYLSTON -- Frank R. DeVillers, 71, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his children and his wife, Dolores on Good Friday, April 14, 2017 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Washington, DC, Frank was a son of the late Ernest R. and Marjorie (Wallace) deVillers, and lived his formative years in Oxford and Worcester before settling in West Boylston with his wife, Dolores in 1972.
He will be affectionately remembered and missed by his wife of 50 years, Dolores (Ferrantino) DeVillers of West Boylston; six children, Curtis R. DeVillers and his wife Sharon of Sterling, Robert T. DeVillers of Sterling, Michael Robidoux and his wife Jean of West Boylston, Annette Lynch and her husband James B. Lynch of West Boylston, Christopher C. DeVillers and his wife Molly O’Connor of Sterling, Michael M. DeVillers and his wife Michele of Worcester; 10 grandchildren, Kelly and Ethan DeVillers, Mitchell and Allison DeVillers, Zachary Robidoux, Samantha and John Lynch, Anthony DeVillers, Michael and William Watkins; two brothers, Robert deVillers and his wife Karen of Westerly, Rhode Island and Paul deVillers of Spencer; three sisters, Carole Kemble and her husband James of Westport, Marjorie Streeter of Rutland, and Jeanne Saad and her husband John of Oxford; an aunt, Gloria Antkowiak of Oxford; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Frank is predeceased by a brother, David C. deVillers.
Frank was a proud union member of the International Union of Elevator Constructors, and worked both construction and maintenance as an elevator mechanic during his 37 year career. He served as Financial Secretary for many years for local 41 in Worcester. In addition, he also worked at Our Lady of Good Counsel for many years doing maintenance and grounds keeping. Frank honorably served his country in the United States Navy from 1963-1967. He was stationed aboard the United States Navy destroyer, USS Meredith as a communication electrician.
He had a quiet dignity, respecting himself the way he respected others. Frank’s life was centered on his Catholic faith. He was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish for 45 years, taught CCD and later led the Catholic Youth Ministry with his wife, Dolores. He also served on the parish advisory board, and enjoyed participating in and hosting prayer groups with fellow parishioners in their home.
During his retirement, Frank enjoyed doing all sorts of woodworking projects in his barn, spending hours and hours building and refinishing furniture. He could be found tinkering with his cars, tractor or anything else that needed fixing around the house. First and foremost came Frank’s family. He embraced being a family man and was a loving husband, son, father, grandfather and brother. He will be remembered for his generosity, kindness and selfless nature.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Frank’s family from 5 to 7 pm on Tuesday, April 18, at the Miles-Sterling Funeral and Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Rd., Sterling. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am on Wednesday, April 19, at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 111 Worcester Street, West Boylston. Burial will follow at Mount Vernon Cemetery, West Boylston. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Elevator Escalator Safety Foundation which sponsors programs teaching children safety while using elevators and escalators.
