RUTLAND – Francis R. LaCanfora, 77, of 135 Wachusett St., died Sunday, February 12, 2006 in St. Vincent Hospital, Worcester, after an illness.
His wife of 54 years, Irene Anne (Lavallee) LaCanfora, died in March of 2005. He leaves his son, Robert R. LaCanfora and his wife Dianna of Harrisville, Rhode Island; six daughters, Rosalie C. Pavlis and her husband Michael of Webster, Mary R. Hoey and her husband James of Elkton, Maryland, Francine A. Flattery and her husband Steve of Worcester, Rita A. Campanale and her husband Peter of West Boylston, Anna-Maria R. Rzuczek and her husband Jake of Tillamook, Oregon, and Christina LaCanfora of Fairfax, Vermont; 12 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. A son, Rocco LaCanfora, died in 1955.
Mr. LaCanfora was born in Worcester, son of Rocco and Rosalie (Bovenzi) LaCanfora, and has lived in Rutland for the last 53 years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II serving as a Seaman second class on a Destroyer. He worked for Rutland Heights Hospital retiring as a stationary foreman in 1983. He and his wife converted the District 5 Muschopauge one room school house into their original home keeping the lines of the schoolhouse. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Church in Rutland, Disabled American Veterans and the Tatnuck Square American Legion Post 288. He loved to correspond through e-cards and enjoyed working outside.
The funeral for Mr. LaCanfora will be held on Thursday, February 16, from the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden, with a Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Patrick’s Church, 290 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Rutland. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, 260 Cambridge Street, Worcester. A calling hour will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 prior to the service in the funeral home.
