OAKHAM – Francis A. Troy, 95, formerly of Oakham, died on Thursday, January 13, 2011 in the Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial Veteran's Hospital in Bedford.
His wife, Ann D. (Daniels) Troy died in 2007. He leaves his daughter, Mary B. Bunker of Concord; three sisters, Abigail Hale of Barre, Irma Hardy of North Brookfield and Mary Elizabeth Spinney of Oakham; and many nieces and nephews. A brother, Thomas F. Troy and a sister, Margaret Demers, predeceased him. He was born in Albany, New York, the son of Thomas F. and Marguerite (Peabody) Troy and graduated from Hardwick High School. He was a staff sergeant with the U.S. Army Air Corps and a veteran of World War II serving with the 513th Bombardment Squadron in the European African Middle Eastern Theatre. He was a P.O.W. in Germany for 18 months and was awarded the Air Medal.
The funeral will be held on Saturday, January 15th, from the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden with an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Thomas-A-Beckett Church, Vernon Avenue, South Barre. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Old Turnpike Road, Oakham.
