Holden – Fordyce S. Freeland, 86, died on Friday, December 31, 2004 in Radius Health Care Center at Worcester after an illness.
He leaves his wife of 59 years, Shirley L. (Lever) Freeland; three sons, Jeffrey A. Freeland, Ronald J. Freeland and his wife Deborah, and Steven D. Freeland all of Holden; five granddaughters, Michelle Sarkisian, Jennifer, Erin, Ashley and Kathryn Freeland; several nephews and nieces. A brother, Frederic Freeland and four sisters, Marion Butcher, Shirley Taylor, Lillian Hoffman and Valeda Freeland predeceased him.
He was born in Worcester the son of Fred F. and Bessie (Davidson) Freeland and lived over 50 years in Holden. Mr. Freeland graduated from Commerce High School and Worcester Junior College and worked at New England Telephone Company in Worcester for 45 years retiring in 1984. He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Holden and the Telephone Pioneers. He was a former Holden Youth Baseball Little League Coach and an assistant Scout Master with Troop # 180, Boys Scouts of America in Holden. He enjoyed vacationing with his family at Moody Beach in Maine.
The funeral service for Mr. Freeland will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 4 in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rt. 122A), Holden. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, 217 Richards Avenue (Rte. 56), Paxton. Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, January 3 in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Radius Hospice, Radius Health Care Center at Millbury, 29 Main St., Millbury, MA 01527.
