WORCESTER – Edward F. Manahan, Jr., 89, of Briarwood Circle, formerly of Rochelle Street, died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, December 24, 2009 in the Rose Monahan Hospice Home, Worcester.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary E. (Harvey) Manahan; two daughters, Sheila M. Clifford and her husband Michael of Holden and Mary Ellen Zemlin and her husband John of Kirkland, Washington; three grandchildren, Michael P. Clifford of Holden, John E. and Lucas H. Zemlin, both of Washington; and many nephews and nieces. He was born in Worcester, the son of Edward F. and Maryann (O'Malley) Manahan, Sr., and lived in Worcester all of his life.
Mr. Manahan was a graduate of St. Peter's High School and the N.E. School of Accounting. He was an accountant at Thom McAn Shoe Co. in Worcester for 40 years, retiring in 1988. He was one of the founding members of St. George's Church in Worcester and was very active in church activities including its men's club. He was also a member of the First Friday Men's Club of Worcester, the Greendale Retired Men's Club and the Emerald Club. He was a devoted husband and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, December 28th, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. The funeral for Mr. Manahan will be held on Tuesday, December 29th, from the funeral home with a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. George's Church, 40 Brattle Street, Worcester. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery, 260 Cambridge Street, Worcester.
