Florence G. Muldoon

June 24, 1925 — April 30, 2021

OAKHAM - Florence Muldoon of Oakham, formerly of Topsfield, passed away April 30 after a long struggle from cardiac disease. She passed peacefully surrounded by a loving family.
Florence was born on June 24, 1925 to Julia and Henry Melnick in Deerfield, MA and had a very full life as a daughter of a dairy and tobacco farmer. After graduating from high school in 1945 she went on to receive her B.S. from the University of Massachusetts and her MS from Framingham State College. Her first job in 1946 was as a teacher at the Sleighton Farm School, PA, which was followed until 1968 with various adult education and supervisory positions. Florence accepted a position in 1968 as a teacher and cafeteria manager, then became an Assistant Director at Essex Agricultural and Technical Institute in Danvers, MA. She moved on to become an Educational Supervisor with the Massachusetts Department of Education in Boston. She became, in 1971, the Assistant Superintendent for Whittier Regional Vocational Technical High School in Haverhill, MA. Florence had a short stint at the Massachusetts Department of Education as an Education Specialist from which she retired.
Throughout her career Florence moved in a highly political arena. Her case for discrimination became the first case tried with representation from N.O.W. which subsequently became a cornerstone of the organization. While employed at “Essex Aggie” she met and married the love of her life Alfred P. Muldoon, a horticultural teacher enthralled with this lively young woman. They moved from Peabody to Topsfield where she became a devoted and loyal mother to three children – Charles, Anne and Michael. Florence was a very talented artist and taught rug braiding as adult education. Florence's abilities were well respected and she became a judge at the annual Topsfield Fair. She and Alfred were avid gardeners and together they created gardens and a home that would rival
any from Better Homes and Gardens.
Florence is predeceased by her parents Henry and Julia, her husband Alfred, her son Charles and all of her siblings – Sophie, Walter and John and their spouses. She is survived by her daughter Anne and son Michael and their respective spouses Duane and Carol, grandchildren Joseph and Kevin with wife Brittany, great grandchildren Alexander and Catherine and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service in Topsfield will be announced at a later date.
