Biography
WORCESTER - Florence J. (Jonas) Lowe, of Worcester, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 17, 2014 at Holden Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Herman Lowe, in 2005.
She is survived by her children, Stephen Lowe and his wife Harriet, Alan Lowe, Lisa Zimov and her husband Ray, all of Worcester, and Karen Lowe and her husband David Romanoff of Shrewsbury; a brother, Bernard Jonas of Worcester; eight grandchildren, Erin and Tim, Brian and his wife Emily, Garett and his wife Olga, Samantha and her husband Jeff, Stacy and her husband Lenny, Scott and his wife Julie, Sasha and Shoshana; and 12 great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her grandson, Mark S. Lowe.
Florence was born and raised in Worcester, the daughter of Morris and Katie (Pickofsky) Jonas, and enjoyed the last four years as a resident at The Willows of Worcester. She was educated through the Worcester public school system and in her 60's, she earned a Bachelor and Master in Health Education degrees, both from Worcester State University. For over 40 years, she provided care and compassion to patients as a professional medical secretary for Dr. Edward Budnitz in Worcester. After the death of her husband, Herman, Florence volunteered at the Rose Monahan Hospice Home.
She was a member of Temple Emanuel Sinai. Florence enjoyed reading, acting in many local plays including the production of Fiddler on the Roof by the Worcester County Light Opera. She also wrote books in Braille, traveled and played cards with her lifelong friends every Saturday night for years.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, October 19, at Temple Emanuel Sinai, 661 Salisbury St., Worcester with burial following at B'Nai Brith Cemetery, St. John's Road in Worcester, under the direction of RICHARD PERLMAN OF MILES FUNERAL HOME OF HOLDEN. Immediately following the burial, a memorial gathering will be held at The Willows of Worcester, 101 Barry Road, Worcester.
Memorial Observance will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Monday, October 20, and also on Tuesday, October 21, at the home of Stephen and Harriet Lowe.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701; or to a charity of one's choice.
