Florence I. (Boyd) Newton

September 14, 1915 — June 6, 2012

STERLING – Florence I. (Boyd) Newton, 96, formerly of Hubbardston and Holden, died peacefully on Wednesday, June 6, 2012, at Sterling Village, Sterling. Florence was born on September 14, 1915, the daughter of E. Wayne and Florence (Wood) Boyd, and lived in Worcester for many years.



Her loving husband of 48 years, George P. Newton, died in 1986. She is survived by her son, Richard G. Newton of Nashua, New Hampshire; a daughter, Jacqueline Young of Hubbardston; four grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her daughter, Diane Barton who died in 1985 and by her granddaughter, Lisa Beaupre in 2002.



After graduating from North High School in Worcester, Florence went on to study at Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Worcester. She worked as a registered nurse at several Worcester area nursing homes, including Knollwood Nursing Center. Her dedication to nursing improved the lives of countless patients and their families. She was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church in Worcester and enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles.



Funeral services for Florence will be private at the Miles-Sterling Funeral and Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Road, Sterling. Burial will be private at the North Cemetery, Oxford. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701.
