WEST BOYLSTON/WORCESTER – Shirley (Field) Raczynski, 84, of Worcester passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Sunday, March 25, 2007, in UMass Memorial Hospital.
Shirley is survived by her devoted husband of 58 years, Theodore J. Raczynski; her two daughters, Janet Raczynski and her husband Edwin Griff of Cincinnati, OH and Diane Phillipo and her husband Steven of Norwich, CT; two sons, Michael Raczynski of Worcester and Dale Raczynski and his wife Diane Blackstone of Hopkinton; a sister, Ruth Pruneau of Roswell, NM; six grandchildren, Lisa and Laura Phillipo, Adam and Julie Griff, Evan and Leah Raczynski. A brother, Ralph Field, Jr. and a sister, Dorothy Adams, predeceased her. She was born in Worcester, daughter of the late Ralph and Gladys (Cook) Field, and lived 55 years in West Boylston before moving to Tatnuck Park in Worcester in 2005.
Shirley graduated from Commerce High School in Worcester. She was a World War II U.S. Coast Guard SPARS veteran stationed in Boston from 1943 – 1946. She worked for General Electric in Schenectady, NY, after her service and she studied piano and music at Phil Saltman Studios in Boston. She married and raised her family with a home in West Boylston. She loved music and participated in singing groups, such as Golden-airs and Joyful Singers. She was an active member of Greendale People’s Church and sang in its choir.
The funeral service for Shirley will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 29, in the Greendale People’s Church, 25 Francis Street, Worcester. Burial will follow in Mt. Vernon Cemetery, West Boylston. Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 28, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden.
