WORCESTER – Irene F. (Hines) Liberty Benson, 82, formerly of Worcester, died Sunday, November 29, 2009 in Old Saybrook, Connecticut. She was born and raised in Worcester, a daughter of Robie and Olive (Maccabee) Hines, and lived in Auburn, nine years in Paxton, and most of her life in Worcester before moving to Connecticut three years ago.
Her husband, Joseph A. Liberty died in 1989. Her second husband, Gordon H. Benson died in 2003. She leaves two sons, Richard Liberty of Philadelphia, PA and Paul Liberty and his wife Sue of Old Saybrook, CT; a daughter, Janet Milner of Yukon, OK; three sisters, Anna Howes of Oracle, AZ, Mildred Comer of Worcester and Roberta Watson of York Harbor, ME; four grandchildren, Amy Milner of Oklahoma City, Megan Keating of New City, China, Jamie and Joseph Liberty, both of Old Saybrook; and many nieces and nephews. Two brothers, Edward and Leonard Hines and a sister, Leta Wagner, predeceased her.
Irene was a graduate of Commerce High School and worked over 25 years for Paul Revere Life Insurance Company in Worcester, retiring as an office supervisor. She was a lifelong member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Worcester.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a calling hour from 10 to 11 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 3rd, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A) , Holden. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, 217 Richards Avenue (Rte. 56), Paxton.
