HOLDEN – Robert F. Herzog, 90, of Reservoir Street, died on Monday, September 6, 2010 in the Christopher House, Worcester, after a short illness.
His wife of 59 years, Harriet (Badjo) Herzog, died in 2003. He leaves his son, Richard F. Herzog and his wife Carol of Holden; two daughters, Cynthia E. Lakus and her husband Paul of Hampton, New Hampshire and Linda A. Herzog and her husband Shaun Clancy of Edgewater, New Jersey; two grandsons, Adam Lakus and Peter Herzog and his wife Julia; and sister, Lillian Nash of Alabama who predeceased him.
Mr. Herzog was born in New York, New York, the son of Jacob and Bertha (Fairbanks) Herzog and lived in Worcester before moving to Holden 13 years ago. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, 1st Division "The Big Red One", 18th Infantry serving in the European African Middle Eastern Theatre where he was awarded two purple hearts and a bronze star for bravery at Normandy.
He was a Purchaser at Memorial Hospital for many years, and previously was the owner and operator of the Castle Market, both in Worcester. He was a member of the Saint Mary's Assumption Albanian Orthodox Church, the Hiram O. Taylor American Legion Post 189 in Sterling and enjoyed golfing.
A Memorial Service will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 16th, in the St. Mary's Assumption Albanian Orthodox Church, 535 Salisbury Street, Worcester. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Massachusetts Veteran's Shelter, Inc., 69 Grove Street, Worcester, MA 01605. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden.
