RUTLAND – Madeline (Farmer) Parquette, 84, of Maple Ave., died on Friday, May 23, 2008, in the Rose Monahan Hospice Home, Worcester, after a brief illness.
Her beloved husband of 50 years, Archer W. Parquette, died in 1997. She is survived by three sons, James F. Parquette and his wife Rose of Kenosha, Wisconsin, Michael R. Parquette and his wife Arlene of Chelmsford, and Lt. Col. (Ret.) William A. Parquette and his wife Ann of Columbia, Maryland; two daughters, Judith E. Spencer and her husband Ernest of Sterling and Mary C. Roentsch and her husband George of Stoddard, New Hampshire; a brother, Charles A. Farmer of Titusville, FL; 10 grandchildren, Ernest and Michael Spencer, and Abigail (Spencer) Brandt, Matthew, Laura, Brian, James, William, Andrew, and Archer Parquette; 3 great grandchildren; a nephew and many dear friends. She was born in South Newbury, New Hampshire, the daughter of James C. and Mary A. (Rowe) Farmer and lived in Keene, NH and Watertown, MA before moving to Rutland in 1958.
Mrs. Parquette graduated from Keene High School and received her BS at the University of New Hampshire. She received two Masters Degrees from Worcester State College in Education and Library Science. She was a teacher in the Rutland School system for over 30 years and previously had taught in Hubbardston and Shrewsbury. She was a longtime member of St. Patrick's Church, the Rutland Historical Society, the Women's Republican Federation, the Rutland Grange and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She served as a Library Trustee and a member of the Rutland Recreation Committee and was very active in town, state and federal politics.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 29th, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. The funeral for Mrs. Parquette will be held on Friday, May 30th, from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick's Church, 258 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Rutland. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery, Rutland. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rutland Historical Society, P.O.
