HOLDEN – Evelyne (Witzel) Whitney, 76, of Brentwood Drive, died Monday, January 2, 2007 at home after a yearlong struggle with lung cancer.
She leaves her husband of 50 years, Leon “Lee” E. Whitney; her cat, Orca; four cousins, Elsa Gross, Guenter Geiser, Dr. Marianne Kaiser and Rolf Mentzel all of Germany. Born in Berlin, Germany daughter of Erich and Agnes (Mentzel) Witzel. She was a 1950 graduate of the Lette Haus Academy of Art in Berlin, Germany. She immigrated to the U.S. in September of 1956 upon her marriage to Lee. From 1956 to 1968 she lived in Northboro before moving to Holden 38 years ago.
In 1964, Evelyne was a Staff Artist for the Feature Parade Magazine for the Worcester Telegram for 27 years retiring in 1991. Previously she worked for Denison Manufacturing in Framingham from 1960-1964.
A memorial service for Evelyne will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, January 7, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. Burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family. A calling hour will be held from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. prior to the service. Please omit flowers.
