CATSKILL, NY / HOLDEN, MA - Evelyn Louise (Weed) Mitchell, 91, died Tuesday, July 29, at the Holden Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in Holden, MA.
She was born on November 16, 1922, the seventh of nine children to Alice (Ruskgrove) and Lewis Weed, Sr. in Walker Valley, New York. She lived in Greene County, New York for over 60 years before moving to Holden in 2007.
Mrs. Mitchell worked for many years at the former Catskill Game Farm, the Greene County Area Agency for Aging and retired from the Greene County Nursing Home at the age of 73. She is survived by her daughter, Jean Mitchell Crowe and her husband, Christopher of Holden; her daughter-in-law, Kay Hartman Mitchell of Catskill; 3 granddaughters, Cynthia (Crowe) Curtis and her husband Randy of Holden, Carolyn (Crowe) Barber and her husband Jonathon of North Attleboro and Megan (Mitchell) Hughes and her husband Michael of Colonie, New York ; five great-grandchildren, Samuel, Olivia and Matthew Curtis, and Abigail and Jack Barber; one sister, Bernice Carroll of Walker Valley, NY; numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased in 1990 by her husband of 46 years, Everett S. Mitchell, in 2001 by her son, Robert S. Mitchell; seven siblings, James, Lewis, Jr., Edward, Eugene, Lillian, Claudia, and Alice.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, August 1, at the Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home, 139 Jefferson Heights, Catskill, New York. A funeral service celebrating her life will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 2, in the funeral home with burial following in the Town of Catskill Cemetery. Arrangements are made jointly between Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home and Miles Funeral Home in Holden, MA.
