HUBBARDSTON – James E. Vaida, 66, of Healdville Road, passed away on Wednesday, September 15, 2010 in UMass Memorial Healthcare-University Campus, Worcester, surrounded by family and friends.
He leaves his wife of 42 years, Suzanne E. (Smith) Vaida; two sons, James Vaida and Joy Busse and their son, Risden Emil Vaida, all of Oakland, California, and David Vaida and his wife Sharon and their children, Bobby, Sara, Jack and Olivia Pearl, all of North Reading; a brother, Thomas Vaida and his wife Deb of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada; a sister, Beth Samuels and her husband William of Providence, Rhode Island; and a niece and a nephew. He was born in Lake Charles, Louisiana, a son of Emil and Pearl (Bordelon) Vaida, and lived in Worcester before moving to Hubbardston 42 years ago.
James was a graduate of North High School in Worcester and Bryant College, then in Providence, Rhode Island. He proudly served his country as a Lieutenant in the National Guard.
He was President, owner and operator of Vaida Adjustment Services in Worcester for 43 years. He served as a Trustee of Barre Savings Bank, a member of the Shop Brook Fishing Club, the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, and the American Legion Post 2 in Barre. Previously, he was a member of the Worcester Rotary Club, Regional Vice President of Ducks Unlimited, Vice President of the Independent Insurance Adjustors Association, Chairman of the Hubbardston and Quabbin School Committees, Boy Scout Leader and Sunday School Teacher at the former First Congregational Church of Hubbardston. James had a passion for life, hunting, fishing, family and friends and Nova Scotia where he was a licensed hunting guide.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend memorial calling hours from 3 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, September 19th, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. A memorial service will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, September 20th, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you "take a child fishing" or donate to a charity of one's choice.
