WORCESTER – Eugene L. Rubin, Esq., age 92, died peacefully on Wednesday, December 25, 2024, at UMASS Memorial Healthcare – University Campus, surrounded by his loving children.
Born in Worcester, Gene was the son of Myer J. and Lillian (Weitzman) Rubin and was a lifelong resident of Worcester. After graduating from Classical High School, he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, after which he worked as an engineer at Eastman Kodak Company. He then joined the U.S. Navy Civil Engineer Corp, proudly earning the rank of Lieutenant. Following his military service, Gene earned his JD from Boston University School of Law, where he was a member of the Boston University Law Review.
After graduating from law school, Gene entered into general private practice in Worcester with his father, renaming their firm Rubin & Rubin. Gene was a well respected jurist with a successful practice which was eventually joined by his son, Steven, where they continued to work together until Gene’s retirement in 2023. Gene was a lifetime member of the Massachusetts Bar Association, the Worcester County Bar Association, and the Executive Committee of the Boston University School of Law Alumni Association, among other civic and professional affiliations.
Gene was an accomplished golfer and longtime member of The Haven Country Club (the former Mount Pleasant Country Club). A member of the Worcester Jewish Community Center, Gene could be found every night after work, schmoozing at the Health Club, working out and playing racket ball. A lifetime member of Temple Emanuel Sinai, he was a past president of its Brotherhood. He was also a board member of the National Jewish Chautauqua Society (now part of the Union of Reform Judaism). He will be remembered for, among other things, his dedication to family, friends and the community, his quick wit and sense of humor, love of music and kindness to others. Gene was loved by all that were fortunate to know him.
Gene will be lovingly missed and remembered by his devoted children, Lisa B. Honig and her husband, Peter, of Worcester, Kim M. Rubin of Needham, and Steven M. Rubin of Worcester; his cherished grandchildren, Rachael Schnell and her husband, Jeffrey, Laura Hall and her husband Michael, Ross Honig and Stephanie Lee; and his four great-grandchildren, Justin, Jenna, Lucas and Max; his sisters-in-law, Naomi Rubin and Toby Cohn; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 46 years, Faye (Katzalsky) Rubin, his brother, Walter Rubin, and his brother-in-law, Louis Cohn.
Family and friends will gather to honor Gene’s memory at a Funeral Service at 11:00 AM on Sunday, December 29th at Temple Emanuel Sinai, 661 Salisbury Street, Worcester. Interment will follow at B’nai Brith Cemetery, 55 St. John’s Road, Worcester. Memorial Observances will be announced. Arrangements are in the care of Miles Funeral Home of Holden.
