PRINCETON – Eugene "Gene" E. Lind, 81, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 21, 2014 at St. Camillus Health Center in Whitinsville. Born in New Sweden, Maine, Eugene was the son of Edward and Alice Lind and lived 40 years in Princeton, and was a former resident of Auburn.
Gene graduated from Caribou High School in Caribou, Maine and studied math at Worcester Academy. He was a machinist for Norton Co. before serving in the Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a service tech for Coca Cola and retired from Fountain Services as a tech. He was a member and former Deacon of the First Congregational Church in Princeton and was a member of the VASA Lodge and served as a guard.
After retiring, his RV took he and his wife, Beverly, all over the country, Canada and Mexico where he loved to follow the "road less traveled" which resulted in numerous adventures. He was a member of Good Sam, Mass. Bay Staters and The Pace Arrows camping clubs. Gene enjoyed wood carving, doing jigsaw puzzles, passionately restoring their farm house and tending to his gardens. His grandchildren were the twinkle in his eyes.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 41 years, Beverly T. (Train) Lind; two sons, Robert S. Lind and his wife, Tracy of Las Vegas, NV and Richard T. Lind and his wife, Beth of Whitinsville; a daughter, Michelle T. Davis and her husband, John of Hubbardston. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Victoria, Sophia, Marissa and RJ Lind and his sister, Velma Blanchard and her husband Daniel of Auburn.
A memorial service honoring Gene's life will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 3, at the First Congregational Church of Princeton. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The First Congregational Church in Princeton, 14 Mountain Road, Princeton, MA 01541; or to the Princeton Fire Department, 8 Town Hall Drive, Princeton, MA 01541; or to the St. Camillus Health Center, 447 Hill Street, Whitinsville, MA 01588.
