Biography
WORCESTER – Dr. Eugene B. Epstein, 81, of Worcester died Tuesday, February 17th in St. Vincent’s Hospital.
He leaves his wife of 55 years, Elsa (Dorfman) Epstein; two sons, Kenneth Epstein and his wife, Claire of North Brookfield, and David A. Epstein and his wife, Deborah of Mattapoiset; two grandchildren, Jessica and Rachel Epstein.
He graduated from Heidelberg University in Tiffin, Ohio and from Georgetown University Medical School. He was an ophthalmologist in private practice for many years and was on the medical staff of St. Vincent and Memorial Hospitals, retiring in 1999. Dr. Epstein was the first Worcester ophthalmologist to perform cataract implant surgery.
He was a member of Temple Emanuel Sinai and B’Nai Brith.
Amongst his varied interests he was a member of the Worcester Orchestra, playing the trumpet. He loved photography and was a Copley Master in photography. He loved wood working. He was an award winning pastel artist. He enjoyed outdoor hiking and was a worldwide traveler.
He was born in Bronx, New York, the son of Herbert and Frieda (Jacobitz) Epstein and lived here for 51 years.
FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE HELD AT 11:00 AM ON FRIDAY FEB. 20TH AT TEMPLE EMANUEL SINAI, 661 SALSIBURY STREET, WORCESTER UNDER THE DIRECTION OF RICHARD PERLMAN OF MILES FUNERAL HOME OF HOLDEN. Burial will be in B’Nai Brith Cemetery, Worcester.
Memorial Observance will be held through 5:00 PM Friday afternoon at the Jewish Healthcare Center, 629 Salisbury Street, Worcester.
