STERLING/BOYLSTON – Eugene “Gene” A. Dodd, 87, formerly of Boylston, died peacefully in the presence of his loving family on Friday, June 7, 2013. Gene graduated from Shrewsbury High School and worked at Wyman Gordon Co. for 35 years, retiring as a manager in the electrical department in Worcester. He was a member of a generation of which Tom Brokow coined “the greatest generation” and was a proud veteran of World War II. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and was a member of the Boylston Lodge of Masons in West Boylston, Scottish Rite Bodies of Worcester, Aleppo Temple Shrine in Wilmington, Worcester County Shrine Club, Aletheia Grotto in Worcester where he served as Monarch and the Greendale Retired Men’s Club. He thoroughly enjoyed playing the harmonica and was a member of the Northborough Senior Center Harmonica Club.

Gene dedicated many years of his life as a volunteer and advocate for seniors throughout the Worcester area. He served many years on the Boylston Council on Aging, Boylston Housing Authority and the board of directors at Elder Services of Worcester where he served as chairman of the Finance Committee. He was the Grand Marshall of the Boylston Bicentennial Celebration Parade in 2008. Gene was also a friend to the Sterling Senior Center. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and will be remembered for his kind and gentle nature.

He is survived and will be lovingly missed by his wife of 64 years, Dorothy May (Flemming) Dodd; his daughter, Linda E. Davis and her partner, Robert Kneeland of Sterling; and his grandson whom he was so proud of, Andrew R. Davis of Boylston; a sister, Elizabeth Alcorn of Worcester; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, George Dodd.

In honor of Gene’s memory, a memorial service celebrating his life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 15, at the First Church in Sterling, 6 Meeting House Hill Road, Sterling. Interment will be private at the Howard Street Cemetery, Northborough. In lieu of flowers, donations in Gene’s name may be made to the Sterling Senior Center, P.O. Box 243, Sterling, MA 01564.
