STERLING – Ethel L. (Kirkpatrick) Porter, 68, of 3 Newell Hill Road, died Monday, October 2, 2006, in UMass Memorial Hospital, Worcester, after an illness.
She leaves her husband of 39 years, Walter T. Porter; three daughters, Vikki L. Flagg and her husband Michael of Hubbardston, Julie A. Tuttle and her husband Brent of Pomfret Center, Connecticut and Christine A. MacRae of Milford; two sisters, Carol Barr of Oakham and Janet Kirkpatrick of Ayer; and four grandchildren. Her brother, Richard Kirkpatrick, and her sister, Hazel Morrow, predeceased her. She was born in Holden, daughter of Meady C. and Mabel E. (Morris) Kirkpatrick, and lived all of her life in Sterling.
Mrs. Porter was a graduate of Wachusett Regional High School and worked as a cook at the Sisters of Mercy Center in Worcester and later at the Wachusett Regional High School retiring in 2000. Previously she worked at MOC Food Services in West Boylston and was a dispatcher for both the Sterling Police and Fire Departments. She was a member of the First Church in Sterling.
Calling hours for Mrs. Porter will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 5, in the Miles-Sterling Funeral Home, 100 Worcester Road, (Rte 12) Sterling. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, October 6, at Hillside Cemetery, Clinton Road, (Rte 62) Sterling. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701.
