WORCESTER - Esther Selig London of Worcester died peacefully and with the most compassionate care at the Willows Health Center in Worcester on December 28, 2021. Born in Worcester, MA on January 13, 1919, to the late Fannie (Orlov) and David Selig, beloved and devoted wife of the late Harold Horst London. Preceded in death by her siblings both older and younger: Irving, Sade, Ann, Philip, Harry, and Jack.
Dear aunt of David R. Selig (Patricia) of Richmond, Virginia, Elizabeth Selig Price of Framingham, MA, Regina Selig Mason (Steven) of Pittsfield, MA; Starr Rickman (Ray) of New York, Harvey Sapolsky (Karen) of Belmont, MA, the late Lawrence Selig of NJ, the late Mary Marder of Framingham, MA, Glenn Rickles of NY and Merle Rickles Davisson of FL and many great and great-great nieces and nephews. Friend and dear sister-in-law, Beatrice Selig of Pittsfield, MA, and friends Robin Blyden, Selma Cherkas and Jay Aframe of Worcester.
A long and full life that most people could only dream of, Esther and her husband built London Fixture Co., a strong and successful business in Worcester, at a time when most women didn’t work. Many years later when the couple decided to retire, the world was wide open to them. They were avid travelers and traveled to just about every continent, Harold the pilot and Esther the co-pilot. She took pride in this role as she was excellent with a map and took them through the mountains and valleys of many a countryside. They loved to entertain, and photos documented each and every trip. Often times these were shown by film to groups of friends at their home accompanied by a 4-course meal prepared by Harold.
After the loss of her husband, Esther kept herself busy. Whether it was taking courses at Assumption College and Worcester State University, continuing to travel in groups or learning the new age of technology on her new computer.
In her later years, she moved to the Willows of Worcester where she lived out the remainder of her life. A great storyteller, with quick wit and a “Selig” dry sense of humor, Esther made many friends and was very happy there. She will be greatly missed.
Graveside funeral services will be held at the Chevra Kadisha/Holy Society Cemetery on Cemetery Road in Leicester, MA on Tuesday, January 4th at 10:00 a.m under the direction of Miles Funeral Home of Holden. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the charity of your choice.
