Esther E. (Davis) Hill
October 10, 1934 — March 21, 2023
HOLDEN – Esther E. (Davis) Hill, 88, passed away on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at Dodge Park in Worcester after an illness. She was born in Rutland, the daughter of Harold E. and Katherine (Davitt) Davis.
Her beloved husband of 64 years, James E. Hill, Sr., passed away in 2021. She leaves her sons, James E. Hill, Jr. and his wife, Elizabeth of Holden, Thomas Hill and his wife, Sharon of West Boylston, Gregory Hill and his wife, Joanne of Holden and Peter Hill and his wife, Tanya of Unity, NH; her four grandchildren, Sarah, Caitlin, Jennifer, and Paul; four great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Robert Davis and her sisters, Gloria Gardner, Kathleen O’Grady, Mary Carr, and Ruth Wagner.
Esther graduated from Rutland High School and was a secretary for several years at Holden Hospital before retiring. Previously, she worked at Rockwood Sprinkler and Love Real Estate. Esther was a member of St. Mary’s Church, the Holden Garden Club, and she taught crewel work at the Night Life program at Wachusett Regional High School. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, and in her leisure Esther enjoyed knitting, tending her many gardens, and traveling the world with Jim, her sisters, and their husbands.
A private committal service will be held at Grove Cemetery in Holden. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Doberman Rescue Unlimited Inc., 52 Tenney Road, Sandown, NH 03873.
