Erva G. (Duston) Berg

March 8, 1937 — June 13, 2013

WEST BOYLSTON – Erva G. (Duston) Berg, 76, a resident of the Briarwood Retirement Community, passed away on Thursday, June 13, 2013, at Knollwood Nursing Home after a struggle with cancer and with the love and support of friends and family.



Her husband of 31 years, John F. Berg, passed away in 2003. Erva leaves three sisters, Charlene Harris of Newbury, NH, Beverly Philibert of Wentworth, NH and Enid Warner of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; 14 nieces and nephews. Her husband’s niece, Patricia Marks of Boylston, was her dearest friend and close gardening companion.



Erva was born in Brentwood, NH, the daughter of Charles and Mary (Mason) Duston and formerly lived in Spencer and Worcester. She retired from Travelers Insurance Company, having worked in Manchester, NH, Boston, Lexington, Springfield and Worcester. During the 17 years she resided at Briarwood Community, she served on the Board of Directors, the Development Committee, the Briarwood Resident’s Assoc. and the Health and Wellness Committee. She enjoyed planting flowers in the shared common area and vegetable gardening in her raised beds. Erva loved the outdoors and the simplicity of nature, gardening in the summer and sewing in the winter.



A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 19, at Salem Covenant Church, 215 Mountain Street East, Worcester, MA 01606. A private committal service will be held at Mountain View Cemetery in Shrewsbury. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Briarwood Resident’s Assistance Fund, 65 Briarwood Circle, Worcester, MA 01606 or to Salem Covenant Church.
