HOLDEN – Ernest R. “Ernie” Malo, 89, died peacefully on Friday, March 18, 2022 at Jewish Healthcare Center, Worcester. Ernie was born in Worcester, the son of Ernest C. and Ethel (Aldrin) Malo. Ernie grew up on Cutler Street in Worcester and spent his later years residing in Holden.
Ernie’s life was dedicated to serving his country, family, and local community. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean era aboard the USS Randolph. After returning home Ernie married his sweetheart, Norma (Rawling) and the couple settled in Tatnuck Square. Ernie ran Malo Auto Body for 60 years and gained a reputation for providing quality service at a fair price.
Ernie had a gift for designing and building. Some of his creations include the family home, the vacation home, pool and air hockey tables, many gifts for his wife and children, furniture, and a swimming pool. Ernie enjoyed spending time at the vacation home in Fairhaven, MA where he enjoyed fishing, clamming and lobstering. Some of his favorite activities were playing poker, shooting pool, building stone walls, working in the yard, cooking, and dancing with his lovely Norma. Ernie was an honest, loving man and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Ernie was predeceased by his beloved wife of 65 years, Norma (Rawling) Malo in January of 2022. He will be lovingly missed and remembered by his children, Michelle Johnston and her husband, Jay of Hubbardston, Christina Iacocca and her husband, Vincent of Holden, Raymond Malo and his wife, Timarie of Fairhaven and Rochelle Brenner and her husband, Quentin of Worcester; his sisters, Janice George and her husband Harold of Spencer and Sharon Boilard of Connecticut; his grandchildren, Melissa, Travis, Courtney, Domenic, Natalie, Forrest, Charlee, Ethan, Cameron, Jameson, Elle; and one great granddaughter, Alice. He was also predeceased by his son, Robert Malo, his granddaughter, Jessica Johnston and his sister, Shirley Sundstrom.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service honoring and celebrating Ernie’s life at 10:00 am on Saturday, April 9, 2022 at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 921 Pleasant St., Worcester. Burial will follow at Mooreland Cemetery, Paxton. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, 1500 Rosecrans Ave., Ste. 200, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266.
