STERLING – Ernest A. Spencer, Jr., 86, of 162 Clinton Road, a life-long resident of Sterling, died Friday, March 28, 2008 in Fawcett Memorial Hospital, Port Charlotte, Florida, after an illness.
His wife of 60 years, Barbara M. (Harman) Spencer, died in April, 2003. He leaves his son, Ernest A. Spencer III of Sterling; two daughters, Patricia A. Haven of Ashby and Diane B. Richard of Leominster; 9 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces. A granddaughter, Kimberly Haven, predeceased him. He was born in Sterling, son of Ernest A. and Mabel (Stuart) Spencer, Sr., and was a graduate of Clinton High School.
Mr. Spencer was an Army veteran of World War II serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre where he was awarded a bronze service star. He was a Pressman for Eusey Press in Leominster and previously worked 30 years for Colonial Press in Clinton. He was a former member of the First Church in Sterling, a member of the Hiram O. Taylor American Legion Post 189 in Sterling and was an avid gardener.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a calling hour at 11 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 12 noon on Saturday, April 5th, in the Miles-Sterling Funeral Home, 100 Worcester Road (Rte. 12), Sterling. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, Clinton Road, Sterling. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Town of Sterling Fire Dept., Ambulance Fund, P. O. Box 515, Sterling, MA 01564.
