Eric W. Sandquist

March 31, 1924 — September 27, 2011

HOLDEN – Eric W. Sandquist, 87, of Avery Heights Drive, died on Tuesday, September 27, 2011 in St. Vincent Hospital, Worcester after a brief illness. Mr. Sandquist was born and raised in Worcester the son of Gustav and Hilda M. (Jacobson) Sandquist and lived 60 years in Holden.

He leaves his beloved wife of 60 years, Bettie V. (Goulding) Sandquist; two daughters, Laurie A. Grabenstein and her husband John of Collegeville, PA and The Rev. Janet V. Sandquist Skagerlind and her husband Paul of Templeton; and five grandchildren, Emily, Annie, Erica and Peter Grabenstein and Emmalise Skagerlind. He was predeceased by his daughter, Deborah Ellen Sandquist.

Mr. Sandquist graduated from North High School and Clark University both in Worcester. He was a research engineer at Norton Company in Worcester where he worked 44 years retiring in 1986. He was a World War II Army Air Corp Veteran and served in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre. Mr. Sandquist served with the 28th Photo Reconnaissance Division in Okinawa and Saipan where he received four Battle Stars. He continued his love of photography in his civilian life.

Mr. Sandquist’s passion was his music. He played many years in a number of bands including, Trinity Symphonnette, Grotto Band, and the Wachusett Community Band. He was an active member and Deacon of the First Baptist Church in Worcester and served on several of its boards and committees. He was also an active member of the Clark University Alumni Association, and loved traveling to the ocean and spending time with family. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

The funeral service honoring Mr. Sandquist’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 1, at the First Baptist Church in Worcester, 111 Park Avenue, Worcester. Burial will follow at Grove Cemetery in Holden. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Massachusetts Veteran’s Shelter Inc., 69 Grove Street, Worcester, MA 01605 or to the Wachusett Food Pantry, P.O. Box 62, Jefferson, MA 01522. Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden is assisting the family with arrangements.
