George E. Peeso

STERLING – George E. Peeso, 87, a former resident of Sterling, died Wednesday, March 28, 2007 in the Golden Living-The Hermitage, Worcester, after an illness.

His wife of 65 years, Mavis P. (Towne) Peeso, died July 17, 2006. He leaves his daughter, Patricia A. Peeso of Sterling, and several nieces and nephews. He was born in Sterling, son of George E. and Annie F. (Willard) Peeso, and lived in Sterling all his life.

Mr. Peeso was a World War II U.S. Army veteran serving in the European and African/Middle Eastern theatres. He served in the 116th Infantry Regiment where he was wounded in action and was awarded the Purple Heart. For 20 years he worked at the Sterling Cider Mill, retiring. Previously worked several years at Norton Company. He was a 45-year veteran of the Sterling Fire Department, retiring as Captain. He was a 60-year member of the Hiram O. Taylor American Legion Post 189 and DAV and a member of the First Church in Sterling, both in Sterling.

A memorial service for Mr. Peeso will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 3, in the First Church in Sterling, 6 Meeting House Hill Road, Sterling. Interment will be private in Hillside Cemetery, Clinton Road, Sterling. Please omit flowers. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Mass. Chapter, 311 Arsenal Street, Watertown, MA 02472; or the Golden Living-The Hermitage, Alzheimers Care Unit, 383 Mill Street, Worcester, MA 01602. Miles-Sterling Funeral Home, 100 Worcester Road, Sterling, is directing arrangements.
