WORCESTER – Dorothy E. (O’Neil) MacDonald, 94, of Paradox Drive, died peacefully on Saturday, August 29, 2009 in the Golden Living Center, Worcester after an illness.
Her husband, Roderick J. MacDonald died in 2000. She leaves three sons, Paul R. and Bruce E. MacDonald, both of Worcester and Philip R. and his wife Patricia MacDonald of Spencer; four grandchildren, Cynthia Plouffe and her husband Mark of Hubbardston, Janice MacDonald of Sterling, P. Ryan MacDonald and Allison M. MacDonald, both of Spencer; six great-grandchildren, Chad and Olivia Plouffe of Hubbardston Haley, Ethan, Larissa and Camden MacDonald all of Leicester. A son, Peter R. MacDonald, a daughter, Moira J. MacDonald and a sister, Ruth Garvey, all predeceased her. She was born in Somerville, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Calnan) O’Neil and lived in Winchester and later in Dunstable before moving to Worcester in 1964.
Mrs. MacDonald graduated from the Cambridge Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and worked briefly as a registered nurse. She was a member of Christ the King Church in Worcester and enjoyed crossword puzzles, knitting and baking.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 2nd in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in Christ the King Church, 1052 Pleasant Street, Worcester. Burial will be private in Central Cemetery, Dunstable. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Massachusetts Chapter, 311Arsenal Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
