HOLDEN – Mary E. (Mavretic) Ballard, 87, a resident for over 50 years, died Sunday, June 28, 2009 in Holy Trinity Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Worcester after an illness.
Her husband of 24 years, Raymond A. Ballard, died in 1967. She leaves four daughters, Mary L. Ballard of Worcester, Jeanne T. Primeau of Conway, NH, Barbara A. Lemarier of Oxford, and Elizabeth A. Wisniewski and her husband John of Holden; a brother, Matthew Mavretic of Lebanon, PA; two sisters, Ann Rudman of Steelton, PA and Frances Wieloch and her husband Tom of Wexford, PA; five grandchildren and many nieces and a nephew. A son-in-law, Edward Primeau and a brother-in-law, Bill Rudman predeceased her.
Mary was born in Steelton, PA the daughter of Matija and Barbara (Muzar) Mavretic and graduated from Steelton High School. Mrs. Ballard worked as a secretary for Ken Jones Tire in Worcester for many years before retiring in 1987. She was a member of St. Mary's Church, the Holden Seniors and the Holden Walking Club. She was an accomplished quilt maker. The family would like to thank the staff of Holy Trinity Nursing Home and Hospice for their compassion and care.
Relatives and friend are invited to attend calling hours from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 1st, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. The funeral for Mary will be held on Thursday, July 2nd, from the funeral home with a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary's Church, 114 Princeton Street, Jefferson. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, 1326 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 2200, Jefferson, MA 01522; or to Holy Trinity Nursing and Rehabilitation Center Activities Fund, 300 Barber Avenue, Worcester, MA 01606.
