STERLING – Madeline E. (Mager) McLean, 93, of Sterling, died on Wednesday, March 4, 2009 in Leominster Hospital after a brief illness. She was born in Leominster in 1916, daughter of Lena E. (Brooks) and Chester S. Mager.
Her husband of 56 years, Arthur E. McLean, died on May 15, 2002. She leaves her son, Scott A. McLean and his wife Christine of Holden; two grandsons, Matthew and Andrew both of Holden; nephews and nieces. A brother, Francis Mager and a sister, Evelyn Arris, predeceased her. She was a 1934 graduate of Leominster High School and attended Fitchburg Business College.
She was a forelady at Wachusett Shirt Co. before marriage. After moving to Sterling, she was a librarian in the Conant Library and Mary Ellen Butterick School for many years. She was a member of the First Church in Sterling and the Sterling Historical Society. Madeline was fond of many games, bocce and croquet especially. She was active in square dancing with her husband and enjoyed flower gardening, needle crafting, bridge and spending time with her family.
The funeral service for Madeline will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, March 6th, in the Miles-Sterling Funeral Home, 100 Worcester Road (Rte. 12), Sterling. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Clinton Road (Rte. 62), Sterling. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Massachusetts Chapter, 311 Arsenal Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
