Elsa Charlotte (Vennberg) Whitmore passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 8th, 2023 at the Oakdale Nursing Home in West Boylston, MA. She was 105 years old.
Elsa was born in Fitchburg, MA on January 24th, 1918. She grew up in Fitchburg with her parents Anna and David Vennberg, and attended Fitchburg Public Schools, graduating from Fitchburg High School. Elsa lived much of her life in Harvard, MA, with her family, later moving to Sun City, AZ, then Sugar Grove, PA, and Princeton, MA. Elsa was predeceased by her loving husband of 42 years, Ronald James Whitmore, her sister Esther Peterson of Ashby, MA, and her brother David Vennberg of Sugar Grove, PA. Elsa leaves a son, David H. Whitmore and his wife Judith A. Whitmore of Sterling, MA. She also leaves two grandchildren, Andrew J. Whitmore of Leominster, MA, and Daniel D. Whitmore and his wife Elizabeth, and a great-grandson Benjamin D. Whitmore, of Princeton, MA.
Elsa worked as an executive secretary for the Simond’s Saw and Steel Company in Fitchburg, retiring after 37 years with the company. She loved to cook and strived to maintain her Swedish roots and traditions, especially when she would gather with family at Christmas. She enjoyed creating beautifully handcrafted fabric items, by doing crewel embroidery and crocheting. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and she was a member of the First Church in Sterling, attending for many years with her family by her side.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Elsa’s family from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Saturday, August 19th 2023 at the First Church of Sterling, 6 Meetinghouse Hill Rd., Sterling, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Sterling. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Church in Sterling. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Miles-Sterling Funeral & Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Rd., Sterling.
