HOLDEN - Elodie S. (Sjoberg) Goodman, 84, of 68 Reservoir St., died in her home on Wednesday, October 4, 2006.
Her husband of 56 years, Elmer L. Goodman died in 2000. She leaves her son, Philip E. Goodman and his wife Lillian of Newport, Maine; a daughter, Susan E. Mortell and her husband William of Paxton; and three grandsons, Jason, Matthew and Eric. She was born in Providence, Rhode Island, the daughter of Eric and Esther Sjoberg and lived many years in North Providence before moving to Holden in 1952.
Mrs. Goodman graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in Providence and later worked as a secretary at Blue, Johnson and Nichols in Providence. She was a 50–year member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where she sang in the Church Choir, and was active in the Women’s Circle and Senior Koinonia. She was also a member of the Chaffin Women’s Club and enjoyed spending time with her family and reading.
The funeral service for Mrs. Goodman will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 7, in Immanuel Lutheran Church, Holden. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, 217 Richards Avenue (Rte. 56), Paxton. Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, October 6, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, 346 Shrewsbury Street, Holden 01520; or Elder Services of Worcester Area, Inc., 411 Chandler Street, Worcester 01602.
