Ellen Mae (Lang) Smith

August 11, 1932 — May 21, 2014

SHREWSBURY - Ellen Mae (Lang) Smith, 81, of Shrewsbury, passed away on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at the Christopher House in Worcester.

Born in Worcester and raised in Shrewsbury, she was the daughter of Wilfred and Evelyn (Anderson) Lang, and was a 1951 graduate of Fanning Trade School in Worcester. She lived in Oxford for many years before moving back to Shrewsbury 20 years ago.

Ellen worked for the State of Massachusetts Dept. of Revenue for 10 years. She loved to do crafts, read books and be "The Mayor" at the town meetings on her deck during summer nights. She will be missed by all who knew her.

She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Shrewsbury.

She leaves behind two loving daughters, Linda Butler and her husband, Robert of Holden and Elizabeth A. Witkowski of Shrewsbury; four grandchildren, Rebecca and Megan Butler, and Sarah and Scott Witkowski; a sister, Dorothy Warren and her husband, Francis of Shrewsbury; and nephews and nieces. Her son, Scott O. Smith, died in 1973. A brother, Robert Lang, and a son-in-law, Bernard Witkowski, both predeceased her in January of this year.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 27, at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. A funeral service honoring her life will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 28, in the funeral home with burial following in Worcester County Memorial Park, 217 Richards Avenue (Rte. 56), Paxton.
