CABOT, VERMONT— C. Elizabeth "Betty" (Pike) Bolton, 89, of 48 Longfellow Road, Shrewsbury, Massachusetts died peacefully in her daughter's home surrounded by her family on Wednesday, April 30, 2008. She was a long time resident of Cabot and Marshfield, Vermont. Her husband of 62 years Robert Merle Bolton died in 2006.
Betty was born in Vermont on October 10, 1918, the daughter of J. Adella (Carpenter) and Harry I. Pike. She leaves her son, Jeffrey M. Bolton and his wife Susan of Colleyville, Texas and her daughter Stephanie B. Liston and her husband Andrew of Shrewsbury, Massachusetts; 5 grandchildren; Ian R. Liston of Dover, DE, Seth B. Liston of Holden, MA, Rebecca G. Liston of Charlestown, MA, Robert J. Bolton of Arlington, TX and Katherine E. Wren of Brewster, NY; 6 great-grandchildren; many nephews and nieces. A sister, Agnes and four brothers, Rudolph, Carroll, Richard and Earle predeceased her.
Mrs. Bolton was a graduate of Cabot High School and the University of Vermont. She was a dedicated Elementary School Teacher in the Cabot School System for more than 30 years, retiring in 1982. In 1981, she received the "Outstanding Vermont Teacher Award."
She was a caring and involved member of the Cabot community, a devoted member of and an organist for the United Church of Cabot. She played for many weddings, funerals and commencement activities.
A memorial service of hymns will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 17th, at the United Church of Cabot. Burial will be private in Durant Cemetery, Cabot. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, 44 Binney Street, Boston, MA 02215 or to the United Church of Cabot, 2 Common Way, Cabot, VT 05647.
